The Georgian Terrace

Updated: Oct 22

We went downtown last week and spent the weekend. I wanted to go to several places in Midtown. And so, I chose The Georgian Terrace Hotel as our hotel. This is a very old and famous luxury property and I had wanted to stay there for sometime. It is directly across the street from the Fox Theater and is just around the corner from the equally famous Mary Mac's Tea Room. Did I mention that it is on the world famous Peacthree Street? Anyway, I arrived around 5:00 in the evening. We had already been to Mary Mac's Tea Room and also to Piedmont Park so we were tired.

You can see the mammoth size of the hotel by these pictures. The property is way over 100 years old.

The picture below, I took FROM a picture that was hanging on the wall downstairs in their lounge. The lady told me that it was of their original building back in the 1800's.

I took the picture below as we exited Livingston's, their upscale restaurant. We were originally going to have dinner there but once we got inside and saw the prices, coupled with their fancy but bland menu, we got up and left. we decided to walk down Peachtree Street and sightsee and find something local on the street.

This was on the first level. That stairway you see, led down to the floor below where they had many meeting rooms as well as their less formal, more casual eatery called Edgar's P & P. After we got back from dinner, we went down there and had a piece of Cheesecake. The waiter that had sat us in the formal restaurant earlier, said to me:"Where were you, I was looking for you?". It pleased me that he remembered me.

We really enjoyed walking around their cavernous lobby with its mosaic tile and beautiful marble.

This was their front desk. There were two ladies on duty when we arrived. And two when we departed.

When we got into the elevator, it wouldn't move. I finally figured out that I needed to swipe my key card across the reader to activate the elevator, which is a great security feature. This was the hallway on my floor as we exited the elevator. Those railngs look down to the atrium on both sides. We were five floors up.

And this was our room.

We entered to a long hallway leading to the bedroom.

This was the artwork in the small foyer as we entered.

The bathroom was rather small but luxuriously furnished, complete with OVERSIZED shampoo and soap bottles in the alcove in the shower. There was no tub, just a shower.

And in the sleeping room, there was a reading alcove. I was surprised that a hotel with such a gorgeous lobby and high price, allowed a stained chair to be in their room. But I sat in it anyway.

As soon as I hit that comfortable mattress, I was out like a light.

This was the view when we got off of my elevator. That atrium looks down onto Peachtree Street and to the Fox Theater.

After a good night's sleep, we got up and went down to Livingston's for breakfast. The rate that I had paid, included a free breakfast. But I still had to pay for gratuities and taxes. I think it was 10.00 or so. But look how fancy the restaurant was.

And even though one side was fancy and had beautiful tables, directly in front of us was more informal. You could see the cooks cooking behind that counter.

I ordered a egg buritto with black beans and avacado along with a side of potatoes. It was very tasty.

This window looks directly across the street at the Fox Theater. You know, it was at The Fox Theater that they had the premier for "Gone With The Wind" way back in the late 30's. I can just imagine that Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable probably looked out of this same window as THEY ate breakfast here as well!

I snapped this picture as I was leaving after my breakfast.

After breakfast, we packed up and checked out.Our Uber came and we were off.

On the plus side, I was very impressed with the beauty and grandeur of the public areas as well as the exterior. I was also impressed with the great service they gave. But for such a beautiful property, steeped in history - AND for such a high price, I was a little taken aback at the drab furnishings in the sleeping room, coupled with the fact that the chair was stained AS WELL AS the desk in the room had many scratches on it. But those were minor concerns overall and we really enjoyed our short stay at The Georgian Terrace.
